DJ's Visit with McCartneys

On Saturday we went to visit Melissa's Grandfather McCartney at his new nursing home. DJ was able to meet his Great Grandma and Grandpa McCartney and Great Aunt Kathy. He was a very happy little boy -- laughing, smiling and talking to Aunt Kathy and Great Grandma. We then went shopping for some clothes at Babies R Us, as well as a car seat for Grandma and Grandpa so Grandma can pick DJ up from school some days!! Then we finished the day with dinner at Grandma and Grandpa's house and DJ watched the Hurricanes v. Oklahoma football game.

DJ's Vaccines

On October 1st DJ visited his new pediatrician, Dr. JoNell Mahoney. Not only is Dr. Mahoney a fantastic pediatrician but she is a family friend. It was such a nice feeling to walk into a doctors office and see bible verses on the wall and have the doctor and her staff know exactly who you are and give you a hug! Dj also had to get his first vaccines -- one liquid and three shots. He was sleeping when the shots happened so it was a rude awakening. He was a trooper though. DJ cried (and Melissa welled up with tears) but after a few minutes of cuddling with mom he settled down and fell asleep again. He also had no bad side effects except a slight fever -- which may not have been a real fever since he is a little hot body anyway!

DJ's Second Month

Wow, can't believe that he is two months old!! The time has flown by, but we can't imagine life without him. Everyday he is showing more and more of his personality -- he definitely has Melissa's temper! He is trying to sit up, rolls onto his side and keeps pushing his feet like he has places to go! His laughter is such an amazing thing, so soft and sweet. DJ smiles at everyone. His is already quite a "talker" to anyone who will listen!

DJ's First UM v. FSJ game

DJ was the "lucky charm" for the Hurricanes this year. He wore his UM shirt to show his team spirit. After a VERY CLOSE GAME...UM pulled out a win over FSU. DJ was very excited by the win (ok, he was sleeping, but his grandpa was very happy with the win). DJ also got to meet his Great Uncle Jac from New Jersey and his second and third cousins, Rob, Kristine, Anna and Daniel.

DJ's First Month

Our first month has been an adjustment. No more full night sleep -- three hours in a row is an accomplishment! We went to the doctor at 2 weeks and DJ had regained the two ounces he lost in the hospital and gained an additional two ounces to put him at a whopping 7 pounds! He is still so tiny, he only fits in preemie clothes! But he is a good eater and sleeper and after a couple of long nights, we were introducted to mylicon and everything has gotten better. He is so amazing, from his smile to his attentiveness. He already holds up his head and is trying to roll over (if he could just move that pesky arm he would be on his stomach!) We also took an outing to Starbucks with him and Penny -- his "little" puppy.

DJ arrives

DJ arrived right on time, via C-section at 12:56pm on August 5, 2009. He was 6 lbs 14 oz and 19.25 inches. I started crying when I heard his little cry. God has given us this gift that we waited and prayed for. This has been a two year journey to reach this point and I know that even though we went through so much heartache, this is how it was meant to be. DJ is a perfect fit for our little family. He had so many visitors, his grandparents (who were so excited to meet him) and his great grandparents, as well as great aunts and uncles, friends and other family.
